Having aphasia has shocked me, but I remain determined to stay positive and continue pursuing my interests. Speaking and understanding language has been complex, but I’m finding ways to work around my condition. I’m grateful to have a supportive family and friends who understand my situation and help me when needed. I’m learning different methods of communication, and I’m confident that I’ll eventually be able to enjoy all my hobbies again.
My biggest challenge has been my woodworking projects. With aphasia, it’s hard to communicate exactly what I want to do with my tools and materials. I’ve found that writing down my plans and drawing diagrams helps, and my wife has been a great help in understanding what I’m trying to do.
Computers have also been a challenge. I find it difficult to express my thoughts via text or email when I can’t find the right words. I’ve had to learn a whole new language to communicate correctly. I’ve also had to teach myself how to use the latest technology, which is a bit daunting, but I’m getting there.
My aphasia has been challenging, but I’m determined to keep doing the things I love. I’m fortunate to have a supportive family and friends who understand my situation and help me when needed. I’m starting to learn new ways of communicating, and I’m sure I’ll eventually be able to enjoy all my hobbies again.
